Who is Fat Golfer?

You’ll find this fat golfer at the range late nights and early mornings.

My story

I’ve been fat my whole life. If you knew me, I was probably the fattest person you knew.

In January of 2022, I was diagnosed with type-2 diabetes. Undeterred, I reached my high weight of approximately 390 lbs in October of 2022. I say approximately because when you weigh that much, you don’t seek out a scale.

Then my doctor put me on Ozempic.

6 months later, I started back to playing golf after a 30 year layoff. Currently, I am down 80 pounds and having a a great time. I played my first 18 holes in 30 years on July 31, 2023.

Now, the bad news… my golf game has never been any good and isn’t really very good now. But I am on a mission to change that.

The weight is a big part of the reason. I am still 100 pounds overweight and while I feel better and look better, a quality, repeatable golf swing is still elusive. And while I am getting quality ball flight these days, my swing still lacks the flexibility and power I would like it to have. Not to mention, walking the course is still something I’m avoiding.

So, in addition to sharing the progress of my golf game, I’ll also be on a journey to get in better overall shape. This means time in the gym, both cardio and weights, to turn myself into a better golfer.

My friend calls golf “the humbling game”. I am humbled just to be able to play. And I’m humbled that you have read this far.

I’ll try to make the journey fun.
