Operation 300
You’ll find this fat golfer at the range late nights and early mornings.
Goal: DrivE the ball 300 yards
I want to drive the ball 300 yards.
As I lose weight and try to improve my game, I find it’s important to have challenging goals (at least for me it is).
Because I live in a city, I get more range time than I get course time. As such, my driver has gotten a fair amount of work (I’m far from a driver-only range guy, but when you have a robot teeing up golf balls for you, practicing the driver is pretty easy.). On the course, playing with my Titleist Pro V1s, I can consistently hit 225 yard drives and have hit as far as 275.
I am going to be 55 years next summer and before I get to that birthday, I want to be able to hit my drives over 300 yards consistently. This will require several things on my part.
Continuing to exercise and lose as much weight as possible. This includes cardio and weighs, as well as golf-specific exercises to help improve consistency and club head speed. In general, removing the weight, particularly from my stomach and thighs, should greatly improve my flexibility and ability to consistently generate higher club head speed.
Speed training on the range and the simulator. I’ve tried a little speed training and found it effective. Now I want to combine that with some Trackmaster numbers and really figure out what I am and where I need to be.
Taking these changes out on the course in the spring and making sure I can consistently hit fairways with my increased speed.
If I get to 300 yards, then what? Well, I guess that will be fun to figure out. Either way, I’ll track my progress here.
